2020 NFL Draft: Jets trade back, get Baylor WR Denzel Mims 59th ...

Joe Douglas you beautiful soul. This is what competency feels like? To be fair the bar is real low. But in his first off season Joe Douglas seems to have a clue. This never seemed to be a requirement for past regimes. I’m not sure if y’all remember the mock draft I mocked up for my beloved Jets. But click here for a refresher:

Round 1, No. 11 overall: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville

Grade: B+

Analysis - I would’ve loved to have my guy Jerry Jeudy. BUT Joe Douglas stuck to his plan and drafted an offensive line to protect our QB. Some say Becton wasn’t the best left on the board but to me he has the biggest upside. Already a great run blocker his Impact will be felt immediately. Does he need to polish his pass protection? Absolutely but you can’t teach light feet and size. Solid pick

Round 2, No. 59 overall: Denzel Mims WR, Baylor

Grade: A

Analysis - The Jets traded down here. I admit I yelled at my tv once I saw this. The chance to get a playmaker was there and we moved down for what ? Well this is why they pay Joe D the big bucks . He acquired an extra pick and still Got a playmaker at 59. Denzel Mims is a sub 4.4 big body receiver who goes up to make plays.

Mims has the potential to make his slide to 59th overall seem silly in short order starting as early as whenever players put on pads and helmets this year. With a ridiculous catch radius, he should also develop into a red zone threat quickly into his career as the safety valve for Sam Darnold. Becoming a precise route runner and lowering the amount of concentration drops are on the docket for most important parts of his future development, but all reports out of the Baylor camp shines the light on him as a hard worker who loves the craft of being a receiver.

Round 3, No. 68 overall: Ashtyn Davis S, California

Grade: B

Analysis - I knew we needed safety depth but I thought we would get that later. Ashtyn plays like his hair is on fire and has corner experience. I’m thinking a Big Nicks package with him. Marcus maye is also always hurt.  But this is a Gregg Williams pick all the way, versatility and speed.

Round 3, No. 79 overall: Jabari Zuniga, DE, Florida

Grade: B-

Analysis- B- and not a B because I thought there were better players on the board. This pick gives jets fans nightmares due to our last pass rusher from Florida. Jabari has great speed and strength. He just needs to put it together.

Round 4, No. 120 overall: La’Mical Perine RB, Florida

Grade: B

Analysis - Another Gator. We needed a number 2 Running Back and we got one. A Bruiser and change of pace back with good hands. Can’t complain here

Round 4, No. 125 overall: James Morgan, QB, FIU

Grade: C-

Analysis - I get we needed a back up Quarterback but in this round there was value elsewhere. Would’ve like to see more O line or weapons. Kid can throw though and is tall and white. So QB profile all the way.

Round 4, No. 129 overall: Cameron Clark , OT, Charlotte

Grade: B

Analysis - Good Reach here. Kid is a bully, probably will move in at guard. This pick is a project but I think it’s going to pay off.

Round 5, No. 158 overall:Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia

Grade A-

Analysis - Was very high on him during the process. A second round player in the 5th round. Steal ! Injury concerns are there but this kid is big corner who makes plays on the ball in the air. If healthy this is the STEAL of the draft.

Round 6, No. 191 overall: Braden Mann, P, Texas A&M

Grade:- IDK it’s a punter

Analysis - Big Leg. That’s good

We traded our last pick for Quincy Wilson a corner who shown flashes before in the league. Probably much better than any corner we might’ve taken here.

Overall Draft Grade: B+

Joe Douglas came out and stuck to his plan. I respect that. Between these players and the UDFA signings I think we have some depth and talent to look at.

Year 3 of the glorified Physical Education teacher's David Gettleman's reign as the General Manager of the New York football Giants is underway as the 2020 Draft approaches. Gettleman's ethos as a decision maker has strayed far away from the normal consensus roster building theories that many of your favorite blogosphere football analysts and NFL reporters have opined, and he hasn't been shy to make unpopular decisions that would bring the wrath and ire of his own faithful fans of big blue against the current administration.

Gettleman took over as GM in 2018, and regardless whether you agreed with the choices to burn down the core of the last Giants team to make the playoffs in 2016 and trade away Odell Beckham, Landon Collins, and company, this is the reality of the situation. Objectively speaking, due to the talent retention issue and wasted draft pick capital that the final classes of former General Manager Jerry Reese tenure brought the team was looking at a top heavy roster that had several holes that needed to be addressed in short order before a core built for long term success could be in place.

A roster can't be rebuilt from scratch to compete with the most complete teams in the league with just one draft class, so before we address the 2020 Draft, a quick reset of the Gettleman era:

2019 Draft
Round 1:  Daniel Jones, QB Duke (Pick 6)
Round 1: Dexter Lawrence, DT Clemson (Pick 17)
Round 1 : Deandre Baker, CB Georgia (Pick 30)
Round 3: Oshane Ximines, Edge Old Dominion (Pick 95)
Round 4: Julian Love, CB Notre Dame (Pick 108)
Round 5: Ryan Connolly, LB Wisconsin (Pick 143)
Round 5: Darius Slayton, WR Auburn (Pick 171)
Round 6: Corey Ballentine, CB Washburn (Pick 180)
*Giants traded away Odell Beckham Jr & Olivier Vernon to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler, and the Browns 1st and 3rd round picks (Dexter Lawrence & Oshane Ximines)

2018 Draft
Round 1: Saquon Barkley, RB Penn State (Pick 2)
Round 2: Will Hernandez, Guard UTEP (Pick 34)
Round 3: Lorenzo Carter, LB Georgia (Pick 66)
Round 3: B.J Hill, DE NC St. (Pick 69)
Round 3: Sam Beal, CB Western Michigan (Supplementary draft)
Round 4: Kyle Lauletta, QB Richmond (Pick 108)
Round 5: RJ Mcintosh, DT Miami (Pick 139)

As one of the last remaining running back truthers left on the planet, group me firmly in the subsection of people who didn't lose sleep at the choice to take Saquon Barkley with the second pick in the draft.  Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, and Josh Rosen sitting on the board for the Giants to take at #2 were among those considered to be the better value picks at the time. None of those QB's would of drastically shifted the Giants trajectory alone without the infrastructure needed in place for a young QB for succeed.

Taking the wrong QB inside the top 10 can easily be damaging to a teams long term prospectus than taking a super human Saquon Barkley who's median outcome in terms of value produced over the career as an asset was extremely high as the only way he flames out would be due to injury. If there was a sin to taking Barkley early it has nothing to do with his talent but on the lack of creativity the Giant's have used to optimize their number one weapon. Was it the most efficient use of draft capital? Probably not. But was it a bad pick? Nope, but it falls in line as a double off the wall instead of a home run.

The NFL Draft isn't an exact science. Executives and decision makers are rigid, extremely stubborn, and maybe even have some mild racial undertones with how these players are selected. The success of Lamar Jackson was often met with takes about how surprising his early success has been, but truthfully speaking the idea the other QB's taken in Round 1 of the 2018 draft having a higher floor or upside than him was always laughable alone off what Jackson put on film at Louisville playing in a pro style offense due to teams being unwilling to adjust their team and offensive schemes to fit an otherworldly talent.

Will Hernandez has been a mixed bag to this point as one of the building blocks on the offensive line, with the team hoping a change in blocking scheme and tutelage under new offensive line coach Marc Colombo help bring more consistency.  Lorenzo Carter & BJ Hill both possess impressive raw tools and have shown flashes of being starters but year 3 for each of them will be pivotal to the success of the 2018 class.

Deandre Baker's senior season at Georgia showcased why he had all of the tools necessary to be a solid man coverage cornerback in the NFL. Although he struggled mightily during the 1st half of his rookie campaign, during the back half of the season the light started to go off for him as his instincts as a defensive back to limit separation from opposing receivers and physicality at the line of scrimmage began to shine.

Darius Slayton selection in the 5th round is to date the best value pick that the Gettleman era has unearthed to date. Showing an all around proclivity that you wouldn't expect from a your run of the mill speedster that can rip a 4.39 40 yard dash. Slayton has impressed by flashing as a crisp route runner and a knack for big plays.

Dexter Lawrence and Oshane Ximine both have a role to play on rebuilding a defensive line that has been a disgrace to great front four's of NYG past in years past, that may actally be looking at a glut when considering the addition of Leonard Williams.

Last but not least, rewinding to draft night of 2019, the Giants selection of Daniel Jones was largely laughed at for being a reach and the next puzzling move in a growing number of head scratching moves under the leadership of Gettleman. I'll eat a healthy amount of crow along with the rest of the public for not seeing team brass' infatuation that was being leaked on the rumor mill leading up to the draft regarding Danny Dimes.

During his rookie campaign, Jones showed an ability to put the ball on the money to his wideouts in tight spaces and the toughness to stand behind a offensive line that was normally a ticking time bomb waiting to detonate with a rushing defensive lineman in his face. Becoming more consistent with his decision making and pocket presence are next in line on the checklist for Jones' improvement, but evidently he's earned the right for some additional leash that wasn't given to hon draft night as we watch the next progression of his career. The most important pick of the Gettleman era has a chance to expedite the entire rebuilding process if he's able to improve on what we saw during his abridged rookie season.

Maybe Gettleman isn't senile after all? EH. Jury's still out. He's done some good thing's and made his share of questionable choices. If you squint hard enough you can see the core of a decent team starting to come together if the coaching staff can do a better job with player development with the talent already on the roster. This is the most important draft of the Gettleman regime and if the scouts and player evaluation team can hit on another draft the arrow will unquestionably be pointing upwards.

2020 NYG Free Agent Additions

2020 NYG Mock Draft by @Krishan_Mamba24
Round 1: Jedrick Willis, OT Alabama (Pick 6)
Round 2: Yetur Gross-Matos EDGE Penn State (Pick 36)
Round 3: Matt Hennessy, OL Temple (Pick 55)
Round 3: Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR Michigan (Pick 99)
Round 4: Alex Highsmith, EDGE Charlotte (Pick  110)
Round 6: Antoine Brooks Jr, S Maryland (Pick 183)
Round 7: Jared Pinkney, TE Vanderbilt (Pick 218)
Round 7: Levonta Taylor, CB FSU (Pick 238)
Round 7: Kyahva Tezino, LB San Diego St (Pick 247)
Round 7: Tremayne Anchurum, OT Clemson (Pick 255)
*Draft trades: Giants trade R1 Pick 4 to the Chargers for R1 Pick 6, R3 Pick 71
Giants trade R3 Pick 71 and R5 Pick 150 to Baltimore for R2 Pick 55*

During the Gettleman regime, leaks have served as a smoke signal to some of the Giants moves they've been interested in, with recent rumors signaling the teams interest of moving back in the draft the possibility of the team moving back and picking up additional draft capital while continuing to build the base on the offensive line makes almost too much sense. Jedrick Willis is one of the most talented and physically imposing hogmollies in this years draft and would provide the line with much needed stability and upside for a franchise tackle to keep Daniel Jones alive.

Donovan Peoples-Jones is one of the most electric receivers in this class with the football in his hands. With a 6"3 frame at 225 pounds, DPJ has an extremely alluring physical profile that puts him inside a class of wide outs from this class that could leave us wondering in a few years how he wasn't drafted higher. DPJ recorded a 44.5 broad jump which the third highest for any WR in combine history. A potential triple threat with the size to be a threat inside the red zone, the 4.48 speed to be a deep threat, and the quickness to be a run after catch threat. If he can refine his route running ability inside the right scheme he could grow to be a dangerous weapon.

I normally leave my writing to various tweets throughout the day, but it’s Covid season so here we are. My father passed on this bad relationship to me. Raz and New York Jets. 27 years of pain and counting.  Some would say I’m old enough to make my own decisions but look up Stockholm syndrome and there is a picture of me.

NYJ Free Agency Additions:
Breshad Perriman WR, 1 year 8.5 million ($6 million guaranteed)
Greg Van Roten, Guard , 3 years 10.5 million
George Fant, Tackle, 3 years 30 million ($13.7 guaranteed)
Connor Mcgoven, Guard 3years 27 million ($18 million guaranteed)
Alex Lewis, Guard 3 years 18.6 million ($3 million guaranteed)
Brian Poole,CB 1 year 3.5 million
Pierre Desir, CB 1 year 3.2 million dollars

But fuck that let’s get to it. Going into the offseason the Jets needed just about everything. Joe Douglas this was your time to shine. Now I’ve lived through Bradway, Izdik , Tannenbaum and Maccagnan so the bar is the floor. Last years Offensive line had me and the chefs at Charlie Meaneys blocking for the Mono God. Needless to say he was fighting for his life all year.  Joe D addressed the Oline , signing George Fant who I’m not sure is good. Resigning Alex Lewis and bringing in two studs in Connor McGovern and Greg Van Roten. Did we upgrade ? Yeah for sure. Do I feel any better? I can’t really tell.

We signed another ILB from the Ravens and I’m not sure why so I won’t address it. But we do know if it’s one thing the Jets need it’s Interior defenders. Welcome to the team Josh Doctson and Breshad Perriman . I love taking chances on former 1st rounders . Because why the fuck not. Resigning Poole and Maulet are good moves along with the desir signing. We still need a big time corner but these dudes are no slouches. The Free agency period was basically bargain hunting and now with the draft this week the Jets still have many needs to address.

Here’s a look at my mock draft for the New York Fastplanes.

Round 1: (Pick 11) Jerry Jeudy WR, Alabama

This is self explanatory. Alabama's recent track record under Nick Saban for productive receivers in the NFL includes Amari Cooper, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley. This years duo of Jeudy & Henry Ruggs should add two more electric playmakers who have plug and play potential early on Sundays.

A complete all around receiver at 6"1 193, a blazer in the open field leaves defenders with a facemask full of dust if they take a sub-optimal route trying to take him down. Light feet as a runner which allows him to accelerate and go 0 to 100 out of cuts, also is an elite route runner due to his swift yet subtle change of direction on his route tree that makes him one of the dangerous receivers in the class. The questions that exist for Jeudy to prove at the next level are his reliance on catches using his body instead of his hands aren't something that will be a crutch when going against the top defensive backs in the NFL and that he possesses the juice to win consistently on jump balls and deep routes against the best of the best. Nonetheless, the departure of fast Robby Anderson to the Panthers in free agency leaves an already vanilla offense in terms of skill position threats that give defensive coordinators sleepless nights leading up to games against the Jets in need of a receiver with an NFL street-esque gamebreaker ability.

College Production: 3 years - 159 receptions - 2,732 yards - 17.2 yards per catch - 26 touchdowns

Combine Stats:
40 time: 4.45 seconds
Vertical Jump: 35 inches
20 yard shuttle: 4.53 seconds

Round 2: (Pick 48) Erza Cleveland, Offensive Tackle - Boise State

Jets need a tackle of the future. I think this is him. Athletic, great in zone running scheme. Needs to get stronger though. I don’t see that as an issue.

The Jets need weapons. Bryan Edwards is the most underrated player in this draft . Solid hands great routes and a dog . 6’3 about 215 a huge target for Sam . Returns punts as well. Minor injury concerns but should be good. A WR2 for years to come

College Production: 4 years - 234 catches - 3,045 yards receiving -13 yards per catch - 22 receiving touchdowns

Combine stats: N/A (Broken foot)

Round 3 (Pick 79) Julian Okwara, Edge Notre Dame

Mock Drafts have him all over the place from 1st rounder to 4th. The jets have two third rounders so I wouldn’t be upset if Okwara and Edwards flip flopped. Great quickness off the edge and can drop in coverage if needed . Needs to get stronger but perfect for a 3-4 .

Round 4 (Pick 120) Tyler Biadasz, Center Wisconsin
Smart, efficient  blocker proven track record blocking for Mr Jonathan Taylor you may have heard of him.  Jets need O line depth and he’s probably the center of the future.

Round 5 (Pick 158)  Lamical Perine,  RB Florida

Back up running back? Why not. NFL Genes. Limichal's father, Terrence played football at Auburn and his cousin is former Oklahoma Sooner & journeyman NFL running back Samaje Perine. Has the potential to be a solid receiver out of the backfield as a third down back due to his ability to pass protect.

College Production: 4 years - 493 carries - 2485 yards - 5 yards per carry - 22 rushing touchdowns - 72 catches - 565 yards - 8 receiving touchdowns

Combine Stats:
40 time: 4.62 seconds
Vertical Jump: 35 inches
20 yard shuttle: 4.31 seconds
3 cone drill: 7.13 seconds

Round 6 (Pick 191) - Antoine Brooks Jr, Safety Maryland

He can’t defend a soul in Pass coverage but HES physical as fuck and hits everything moving l. Special teams legend, back up box safety, Fan FAVORITE LOADING!

Round 7 (Pick 211) Lamar Jackson,CB Nebraska
It’s the seventh round I have no clue . Last guy with this name was pretty good and he also played some QB in high school!

I feel confident with my draft. After this the Fast Planes probably still need to get a corner and sure up some more pass rush. But if Joe D can do something similar to this I think we got a chance to be respected very soon.

Music is drug. Simply put, it's an all purpose ointment for the peaks and valleys that come with the day to day tribulations of life.
The mind blowing thing about music is that there's such a vast amount of ground to cover out there that there's always an unique project, or an artist that can trigger a certain emotion or premonition within you for each disposition possible. There's music for the turn up, there's music that numbs you when you're seeking an escape from reality, there's music that will take you to an introspective and reflective space

Everybody has a distinct taste and your personal musical DNA is as unique to your individuality as your social security number. It's nothing unexpected that loving similar music can be both a subject of discussion, a device for association, and a source of kinship to both the Artist and other devout fans stans. As work's in progress, there's always a significant number of features of personalization that originate from the music we listen to and I've always been a proponent that the music you listen to during the day will have a direct effect on your psyche for the day.

Someone tweeted about how people born in 1994 are the new old heads...and yeah that may of had a spec of some truth to it. "You had to be outside" may qualify as a overused trope that justifies the rolling of ones eyes, but there's some truth to it. Living through music in your headphones doesn't compare to the organic utility of music and how it spreads and touches the people. Some of the music below was released before i could even form sentences or even string together coherent thoughts, so there's an element of it missing from my personal experience and had to be learned retroactively but it doesn't take away from the quality of the music standing the test of time.

For the record, Doggystyle & Illmatic each came out before i took my first breath, which is crazy and spotlights the lifespan of timeless music. The battle on IG Live between DJ Premier & RZA put a spotlight on the modern beauty of hip-hop which has now spanned several generations and now instead of janky ass handmedowns being passed down the gift of timeless music can be given to anyone with enough reverence for the dominant culture to do their due diligence.

Below is a list of the albums i would define as the fiber of my musical DNA. At anytime if you would've came up to me and asked me what album or project has been on repeat for you? The answer would've been found somewhere on here. This list spans several eras from Cassette's, CD's, limewire, the Streaming era, and the Blog era. Enjoy!

*Warning*

*If you are not used to to digesting a high level of ignorance at one time, please brace yourself for what you're about to read. Also, If you are prone to hating or known to have sucker tendencies, you definitely won't comprehend the gems that are about to be dropped, so you probably should stop reading right now*

This issue right here covers everyone from grown ass adults to middle schoolers.

A Survival guide for the male species. A chance at redemption & all round rules to live by in your dating life.

The Four principles of the game:
1. Put yourself First 2. Take NOTHING PERSONAL 3. Never make any assumptions 4. Relax!

I. Put yourself first

Self explanatory, if you don’t do what’s best for you the game will run you ragged and you’ll end up falling prey to your internal bozo instincts and evidently sacrificing your physical and mental health.
Self confidence is a major key to attraction from the opposites sex point of view, if you're psyche is fragile enough to the point where you have trouble handling rejection or begin acting out of character this will not end well for you my friend.

II.Take nothing personal

Men & women are similar in some ways. She can have sex after a night of drinking on Dyckman with her homegirls and still like you very much! Her choice to fornicate with the next man had nothing to do with you brother, it was her choice! Understanding that she just might belong to the streets and NOT you is just par for the course.

We all have eyes and can spot someone who's fine as hell, so when you notice every weekend she's posting videos on her IG story blowing smoke via a mint Hookah pipe, just think about all the dudes who gonna spit their best game and try and get her number. Or even worse, if she's a dime piece with a massive social media following. All it takes is some quick math's to realize the competition and the numbers game at hand.

III. Never make any assumptions

You could have money, make all the time in the world for her, buy her nice things, $200 dates, why would you think that guarantees pussy? Or loyalty even? At the end of the day the decision is always in the hands of the woman. Her giving you some is her choice and her alone. Right before that beloved moment when you're about to engage in some consensual nastiness, just take a second to yourself and say "Wow. This dumb broad could've given anyone else in the world some pussy but she chose me!" and enjoy the moment.

The only assumption you should be making with a chick who is not your girlfriend is that you're just one of the many horses in her stable of men that she chooses to ride. This is not necessarily a bad thing though if you play your cards right! Being her favorite nigga will get you much further and more appreciated in the long run opposed to losing sleep over knowing dick is just one iMessage away for her when you think about the logistical realities of dealing with attractive women.

Rejection is just a part of the game. Every real nigga has gotten rejected before. But the Realest Niggas just understand that it's a part of the game and move on to the next broad while others will get sad over a chick and go home and just listen to Take Care all night like a simp.

IIII. Relax!

Very important. Many men get their heart broken. Dude it’s ok! We all take Ls. You are allowed to be upset but RELAX! The next decision you make is crucial!!! Wrong move & and you can embarrass yourself or even put your reputation in jeopardy if you choose to go the route of moving like a sucker. Don't be one of these niggas leaking nudes or exposing woman on the timeline, all this does is shine the light on yourself as being a bozo and potentially tweet yourself out of additional vagina in the future.

Smarten up. It's 2020, Ladies is pimps too, and have just as much game if not more than most niggas. In this world where OnlyFans links are multiplying by the hour, chicks have finally realized they can exploit the collective horniness of the male specie as a power dynamic and monetarily.

Exposing a girl for being a hoe is like exposing a dog for wagging it's tail. You don't get any points for this, and all it's gonna do is end up with you on the Summer Jam screen, or worst aired out on the timeline for going out like a sucker.

Keep her number saved just in case.

Once sh*t gets rocky between shawty and her mans make sure your one of the first people to hit her with that "You know I would of never treated you like that, right?" text. Timing is key. Rebound p*ssy is almost guaranteed if you play it right my friends.

The bar is often the floor and a lot of dudes don't even know how to treat a woman right, so chances have it if you play your part and keep things from getting messy you can get reciprocated eventually down the line for being a good street soldier.

Conclusion:

Just know you can be very happy and live a blissful life if you know the game, choose to ignore it and it can possibly rear it’s ugly head in the worst way if you don't handle it proficiently..

This isn't for everyone, so if it isn't just find you a Queen and start building to avoid the dark abyss of being in the trenches. Long story short... stop going out sad. The game is the game.
